Where is John Landy Field, Geelong?

What do you do at Landy Field, Geelong?
Athletes from Under 8 (2017) to Under 17 (2008) participate in a variety of weekly running, jumping and throwing events. Whilst athletes take part in a competitive environment there is a strong emphasis on encouragement for athletes’ individual improvement.

What age can you start athletics?
Athletes can start Little Athletics from U6 till U17.

  • U6-U7 – participate in the Tracker program

  • U8-U17 – participate in the Competition program

Is there a program for children U6/U7 (e.g Auskick etc.)?
Athletes born in 2018, 2019 do our On Track a 1 ½ hour skills based program. (Please note athletes turning 5 between Oct 1-Dec 31 can register as an U6 for the commencement of the season.
Athletes turning 5 after Jan 1 (2020 born) must wait until they have turned 5 before registering (these new U6 athletes will repeat U6 in the next calendar season - 25/26). You’ll find more information regarding our OnTrackers in the heading bar ‘About’.

How do you register for athletics?
Registration is via LAVic site: https://lavic.com.au/centres/geelong/ . Once registered you are a member of GLAC and you can participate at our meets.

Can you try athletics before registering?

Up to a maximum of two visits and not if you Trialed previous years

What clubs can you join at Geelong Little Athletics?
When you join Geelong Little Athletics you must choose a club from the below list of eight clubs that run under GLAC.

  • Chilwell

  • East Geelong

  • Geelong Guild.

  • Grovedale

  • Leopold

  • Ocean Grove/Barwon Heads

  • Peninsula

  • South Barwon

There is no rule in choosing your club.  Most members choose the club closest to their home, school or friend based. Others choose based on club uniform colours.

Are there any Region and State competitions?
Yes, each Track & Field and Cross country season there are region and state events that U9-U17 age groups can compete in.  Please see LAVic website for more information. Note. there are rules for entries into these events.

What is the cost?
Registration costs range from $195 - $220 (+processing fee) dependent upon which club you choose to join.

Do I have to wear a uniform?
Yes you do, it is compulsory from U8-U17s. All competitive members MUST wear the correct uniform. Uniforms are purchased from the clubs directly. Those U9s and older participating at external competitions must wear the centre uniform. All club singlets or centre singlets (when competing outside Geelong) must have a Coles badge stiched on the singlet, above LAVic logo.

What day and time does athletics start?
Geelong Little Athletics runs Track and Field every Saturday (except Region/State events) from 8.00am to 12 noon, October to March. There are three - four weeks off over Christmas/New Year’s period. Cross Country runs on Saturday afternoons April-August, around Eastern Gardens and other Geelong locations.

Do parents have to do duties?
Yes, your club will allocate duties for you to do on a Saturday morning, on at least three occasions throughout the season.

Little Athletics is a fun way for families to come together with the Centre being 100% volunteer driven. It takes 100+ volunteers each week to run our program from raking a pit, to handing out place cards or assisting with set up and pack up.

Can parents leave their child at athletics unattended?
NO! All children need to be at Landy with an Adult/Carer. Athletics is not a drop-off sport.

Can schools book Landy Field?
Yes. Schools must book the facility via City of Greater Geelong.
If they require equipment, GLAC hires out their equipment to the schools for a cost.
